Thank you for contributing to the Indy Toxic Heritage Project. When submitting an item, please make sure to provide information that is accurate to the best of your knowledge. Reproduction rights remain with the item's creator. Images on the site are made available to the public for non-commercial educational use.

Note that this site collects email addresses to validate submissions. These addresses are not shared. In contributing to the archive, be aware that we publish the fields "creator/author" and "contributor." If you want to personally remain anonymous please leave these fields blank as appropriate. If you are not the creator of the image or item, you should always cite the creator/author,  which is the individual and/or institution that created the item being contributed.

All items contributed from the United States are made with the understanding that everything on this site follows a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).  

 

Project Information

Research project: Indy Toxic Heritage: Pollution, Place, and Power

Research investigators: Elizabeth (Liz) Kryder-Reid and Laura Holzman

Activity: We are inviting you to share your story of experience with environmental damage (including social and physical harm from industrial waste, climate change, pollution, etc.) and/or advocacy for environmental justice in Indianapolis. Your contribution may be written, verbal (recorded), or visual.
Time: The length of time will be dependent on what you are submitting and how long it takes you to create it, but filling out the information and uploading it should take 5 minutes.

Risk: The risks associated with your participation in this storytelling project are the potential emotional discomfort of recalling distressing or unpleasant experiences and the risk for loss of confidentiality if you choose to remain anonymous.

How your story will be used:

  •  Your story will become part of a collection of stories about toxic heritage in Indianapolis shared in this digital archive.
  •  Your story may be shared publicly (in whole or in excerpts) as part of an exhibit, public program,  and/or other publications and presentations.
  • Your story will be stored in the digital format in which it is submitted (jpeg, pdf, audio file) on the OMEKA site managed by the IU Indianapolis University Library.
  • We cannot guarantee that your story will be saved beyond the duration of this project, but we anticipate curating this project for the next 5 years at minimum.


How you’ll be identified: You may choose to how you want your name associated with your story.

  • You may choose to have your name publicly associated with your story.
  • You may choose to remain anonymous in public, but your name will be associated with the story in our research project records accessed only by the research project team.

Right to withdraw: Your participation is voluntary. After you have submitted your story, you may with withdraw your contribution until January 15, 2025. Contact the research team to make a request.
